• Safe Church

A safe church policy is a plan to prevent any level of abuse in a church, and it involves everyone in the church community. The goal is to protect all people, including those in positions of authority, volunteers, members and non-members.

Today, the vulnerable continue to be exploited and the Church must create action in safeguarding the physical, emotional and spiritual health of every person in its care. We intend for everyone to have a safe spiritual space to be who they are without prejudice in each of our spaces of ministry.

To help equip clergy & staff, we require safety and prevention training in each of our contexts.

The wellbeing of our adults, children, and teenager’s physical, emotional, and spiritual health and safety is paramount with AFFA.

In each state, everyone is deemed a mandated reporter as it relates to children. This means anyone with reasonable cause to believe a child is being abused or neglected must, under the law, immediately report to our province canon as well as their individual state Department of Children’s Services or to local law enforcement.

Each year, our Safe Church Committee reviews and evaluates new and meaningful ways of safeguarding the humans we have in our care, as well as helping all of our clergy to do this as well as possible.
